This directory,"/home/eos/in-situ.data/mmsa/1997/met", contains raw (data directly off the datalogger) meteorological and conductance data acquired at the Mammoth Mtn. Ski Area meteorological station. The data for Jan. 1 - 30, 1997 was received from Rick Kattelmann, UCSB/ICESS. The remainder of this data was received from Bert Davis & Bryan Harrington at CRREL in New Hampshire in early 1998, with the exception of the data in the "oct-Dec" directory, which contains data files recieved from John Fiori (CRREL) in April 1998. The original tar file, plus some other files from CRREL are in the directory called "/home/eos/in-situ.data/mmsa/crrel/raw/1997/crrel_files". I noticed that the data from CRREL came in a different format. Fiori said the format changed with the use of PC208W software when crrel installed a new computer. Gaps in data acquisition occured. Some of the larger gaps are between Feb4 and Feb 17, June 20 - July 2, and Oct.1 - Oct. 11. 1997 was a year of flux. CRREL started setting up a new system there early in the year (Jan?) and it was quite some time before programs/sensors/communications/etc. stablized. You will find a few ".wc" files in this directory that I generated. The "wc" stands for word count. There are a number of places where the wc file indicates that the number of columns/row changed. The initial readme files that were provided by CRREL, did not describe those changes. Updated readmes were provided by crrel in April 98 and should now correctly reflect what is found in the data (Rick is currently checking on this.) D.Donahue, UCSB/ICESS Update, D.Donahue 1/99: Weimin Li wrote a perl program, which re-formated the Jan - Sept. 1997 files into a comma delimited format. At Rick's request, he also concatenated daily files. These files end in .dat. Update, D.Donahue,1/3/2002: In the very near future /home/eos/in-situ/mmsa will be equal to /home/mmsa. The /home/eos/in-situ.data/mmsa/crrel/ directory will be available on unix only (not on neige).
